the grayson family wasn't known in the area of la, california for being the most dependable people. john and mary, the two most basic of names, weren't really known at all. they floated from one location to another, never visiting the same place twice, and always keeping their heads on a swivel. john and mary were what some might call 'con-artists' they worked minor jobs, enough to survive and then they found a new mark once they were completed. it was easy work, but not the most legal. most of the time they didn't involve their son, ryan, but every now and then he was roped in and taught the con.
everything from slip and falls to car accidents to funerals was a job for the graysons and they were very good at it, but ryan hated it. he knew it was wrong, but as a young man he didn't have a choice in what he was doing. at least as ryan got older he found ways to distance himself from the reputation his family was building. he found comfort in free running and surfing and did it frequently. he was rarely at the rv his parents moved from location to location, but when he was he was practicing gymnastic stunts on an old mattress strapped to the roof.
at the age of 18, ryan was given an option by his parents of joining the team to carry his weight or find another place to rest his head. ryan choose the later and by the end of school that day, ryan came home to tire marks and a note pinned to his old mattress that this parents had to go. it wasn't exactly what he expected, but he didn't shed a lot of tears over it. from that day forward, ryan was on his own.
thankfully, ryan was a bright kid and managed to get himself into community college, from there he gained scholarships to ucla university where he was pre-med, and then finally medical school where he took special interest in pedriatrics. he loved kids, and the idea of helping kids was all he could think of. once ryan had an idea in his head it was impossible to stop him. he was stubborn to a fault.
following completion of medical school, he moved to oakland to take a job offer for ucsf medical center. its been years since ryan's heard from his parents, but he's managed to do pretty well on his own.
